Scent

Perfume - "a sweet smelling fluid containing the essence of flowers and other substances"

Perfume comes to life on each individuals skin, giving perfume time to bloom on your skin is how to give it a chance and see if you enjoy the scent. The heat on your body activates it, so positioning a perfume on the pulse points will make the scent evoke its smell. Each of us have our own scent print which influences the development of a scent, making the same perfume smell different on each individual. People with oily skin keep the scent of a perfume longer as the oils in our skin dissolve and retain scent molecules.

Fragrances depend strongly on the environment that  is is smelt within. Often in a retail store the perfume department has a heady mixture of fragrances in the air, changing and influencing how you smell the scent you choose to sniff. Air-conditioning also creates temperature and humidity levels are very different to those found at home which effects how we smell. Commonly fragrances smelt in-store alter to when smelt at home.

Researching perfume and the elements and factors that influence the way people smell the scent has intrigued me to design a space based on scent. To sell perfume, yet to figure out if the retail shop sells one type of scent (flagship store) or a range. Heat light and humidity will break down the perfume and lessen the quality of the fragrance.
